Tikahiri est né en 2003 de la rencontre artistique entre quatre musiciens au talent reconnu, Aroma, Mano, Stéphane et Simon.
Quatre personnalités totalement différentes qui révolutionnent le paysage musical polynésien, avec un nouveau style, du « paumotu gothique ».
Le violoncelliste Simon Pillard et Stéphane Rossoni à la batterie, ont réussi à se mêler harmonieusement aux voix à la fois claires et gutturales d’Aroma et Mano Salmon.
Les deux frères sont auteurs, compositeurs et interprètes des morceaux, qu’ils accompagnent de leurs guitares.
Le violoncelle, dans leur style qualifié de « rock paumotu », donne à Tikahiri la touche novatrice de la musique polynésienne.
Un groupe atypique qui démontre aujourd’hui le mariage possible entre des instruments de musique classique, le gothique et la langue pa'umotu.
Tikahiri is the hottest and most innovative new band to come out of Tahiti.Formed in 2003, Tikahiri has broken all conventions and expectations for South Pacific music by combining modern rock and goth with a distinctive Polynesian spin that echoes the battle cry of warriors past.
The band’s sound is a sonic paradox, testifying to its goth and metal heritage but rising up with melody.
With its dark roots, it’s no surprise that Tikahiri means “blood” in pa’umotu, the rare language of the isolated Tuamotu Archipelago where Tikahiri’s founders, Aroma and Mano Salmon, brothers and tattoo artists, spent their teens.
In 2008, Tikahiri’s popularity exploded after appearing on the series 9 semaines et 1 jour (9 weeks and 1 day) televised on French national television.
Since then, Tikahiri has rocked the region– performing for French Polynesia’s president, rocking Tahiti with a one-of-a-kind multimedia/laser performance, and appearing on local television, its songs in heavy rotation on air.
Now established in its home islands, Tikahiri is now planning to reach across the Polynesian triangle for performances in Hawai‘i and Aotearoa/New Zealand in 2011 and 2012.
